Aryabhata was one of the great mathematicians and astronomers from the classical era in India.
In fact, he is considered to be the first great mathematician in a long line of visionary mathematicians who would emerge from India from the classical era onward. His published works were many years ahead of their time and a significant amount of modern mathematics and astronomy can be traced back to the studies and works associated with him.
