Leffingwell campaign first to use VoterView augmented reality technology in election
Some politicians could be said to distort reality, but Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell has been augmenting it days before the Saturday election in which he is vying for another term.
The candidate's campaign sent out a mailer Monday to voters that uses augmented reality technology.
A full-page ad in the Austin Chronicle also carried the same logo, which enables the use of a free iOS app called VoterView.
When viewed through the camera of an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, a second 3-D computer-animated pop-up video springs from the logo featuring, among other things, a colorful City Hall building, a spinning cartoon light bulb and a tiny Leffingwell driving a blue pickup against an Austin skyline.
The effect is similar to what Nintendo's 3DS system does with trading cards that are included with the portable game console or with titles such as "Kid Icarus." You can rotate the device or the logo and th
